Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown seems to be in the trade mill nearly every NBA offseason, and this summer has been more serious than ever.
The Celtics came close to trading Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks in a deal that would have sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to Boston, but the Celtics balked at the Bucks’ overall asking price and watched as Antetokounmpo was dealt to the Miami Heat.
But the C’s haven’t stopped there.
The Celtics have continued shopping Brown around in trade talks, signaling the potential end of the champion’s decade-long tenure in Beantown.
However, former Celtics forward Marcus Morris actually believes that Brown will end up spending the rest of his career in Boston … sort of.
During a recent appearance on ESPN First Take, Morris dropped a rather confusing prediction on Brown’s future with the C’s.
“I think Jaylen Brown retires as a Celtic,” Morris said. “Unless Jaylen Brown wants to get his own team. I don’t think it’s about the Celtics at this point. I think it’s Jaylen Brown recognizing, ‘Do I want to keep doing this Batman and Robin thing with Jayson Tatum?'”
Wait, so does Morris think that Brown will remain in Boston? Or does he believe that Brown will get tired of playing second fiddle to Tatum and ultimately ask out?
Brown is coming off of the best individual campaign of his career, as he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists over 34.4 minutes per game on 47.7/34.7/79.5 shooting splits.
The 30-year-old then went on to declare the 2025-26 campaign his favorite season ever, this even though the Celtics were bounced out of the first round of the playoffs. Remember: Brown helped lead Boston to a championship in 2024, so his comments were certainly peculiar.
The Celtics still appear to be aggressively fielding trade offers for Brown, so things may have reached the point of no return between the two sides.
Boston originally selected Brown with the third overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft.
