The Miami Heat have already struck big this offseason, swinging a blockbuster trade to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.
And they probably aren’t done.
The Heat sacrificed significant depth to pry Antetokounmpo away from Milwaukee, so they will have to fill out the rest of their roster in free agency. And if Miami is smart, it will construct a roster similar to the one the Bucks had when they won a championship with Antetokounmpo in 2021.
Milwaukee stocked that title-winning squad with shooters, and the Heat are apparently looking to do just that this summer.
Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald have reported that the Heat are monitoring the Atlanta Hawks’ situation with Buddy Hield, who only has $3 million of his $9.6 million guaranteed for the 2026-27 campaign.
The Hawks and Hield initially had a Thursday deadline to decide how to proceed, but the two sides have agreed to push the deadline back as they continue to negotiate.
Should Atlanta end up releasing Hield, Miami would absolutely represent a potential landing spot.
Hield split this past season between the Golden State Warriors and the Hawks, averaging 7.6 points and 2.3 rebounds over 16.1 minutes per game on 43.7/34.9/81.1 shooting splits.
The 33-year-old had an off year from downtown in 2025-26, but he is a lifetime 39.5 percent three-point shooter, so expecting a bounceback from him next season is not out of the question.
You also have to figure that Hield would come fairly cheap, so the Heat may be able to snatch up a typically reliable long-range shooter for Antetokounmpo.
Hield has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers in addition to the Warriors and Hawks.
He owns lifetime averages of 14.5 points and four rebounds a night.
