Warriors Predicted to Make Key Move for Potential Trade

The Golden State Warriors have had a very quiet NBA offseason, as they haven’t added anyone in free agency nor via trade, and their only loss was Kevon Looney.

Considering the Warriors made a major run after acquiring Jimmy Butler before the NBA trade deadline last season, you would have thought they would have made more of an effort to make more additions, although they could be simply gearing up for a run at Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Regardless, Golden State still has plenty of time to do something before the start of the 2025-26 campaign, and re-signing Jonathan Kuminga could ultimately represent one of its primary moves.

Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes feels that Kuminga, a restricted free agent, will eventually return to the Warriors, and he thinks it will be for the point of a trade.

“Odds are, Kuminga will be back with Golden State on a two- or three-year deal that pays him somewhere around $25 million per season—terms that should make him tradable for positive value at the deadline,” Hughes wrote.

Is it possible that Kuminga could be used in a package to pry Antetokounmpo away from the Milwaukee Bucks? Perhaps, but it’s also possible that the Dubs simply want to keep the 22-year-old long term.

Kuminga averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds over 24.3 minutes per game on 45.4/30.5/66.8 shooting splits in what was actually a pretty disappointing campaign for the former No. 7 overall pick following a breakout season the year prior.

His shaky perimeter shot has been a major source of contention, especially considering he shot 37 percent from three-point range back in 2022-23. That number has dipped in each of the last two campaigns, making Kuminga a rather frustrating young talent.

That being said, the Democratic Republic of Congo native still has ample room to grow and could be an integral part of the Warriors’ long-term plans…even if it means they plan on including him in a blockbuster trade.
