The Golden State Warriors have had a quiet offseason so far. There is still hope that the team will be able to sign Al Horford and possibly De’Anthony Melton, but the question would still remain whether that’s enough to win a championship.
Stephen Curry remains playing at an elite level. Jimmy Butler is his new No. 2 option. Draymond Green is still around as well playing a key leadership role.
How about the addition of LeBron James?
That potential move has been rumored for quite some time. James and Curry teaming up has been brought up on many different occasions. Recently, there were rumblings that the Warriors could consider pursuing a trade for James due to his relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers being rumored to be on the rocks.
Evan Massey of Newsweek has named Golden State as a potential future landing spot for James. He believes that next offseason would be a much more likely chance for the Warriors to pursue James in free agency rather than a blockbuster trade this year.
“Stephen Curry and James pairing up would be a dream come true for both players. The Warriors have reportedly considered pursuing a trade for James in the past,” Massey wrote. “Both players are nearing the end of their respective careers. Pairing up and making a run at it together would be must-watch basketball. It’s an option worth monitoring should he hit the free agency market.”
James is still among the NBA’s elite. He averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and a steal per game during the 2024-25 NBA season with the Lakers in 70 games.
At 40 years old, there is no telling what the future holds for James. Will he even play past the 2025-26 campaign? That question has an unknown answer as well.
Should he choose to enter free agency next offseason, Golden State could be an intriguing destination for him. Being able to play alongside would indeed be fun to watch. Both players have a longstanding respect and love for each other.
While it’s just an option at this point in time, the idea of James and Curry pairing up could make a lot of sense for all parties included.
