The 2025-26 NBA season is coming up quickly and the Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to take a step forward as a potential contender in the Western Conference. LeBron James and Luka Doncic are back for at least one more season playing together.
Following the blockbuster trade for Doncic last season, the Lakers clearly passed their franchise cornerstone torch from James to Doncic. That has led to quite a few rumors about James’ future this offseason.
With just one year remaining on his contract with the team, James could be on his way out of Los Angeles following the upcoming campaign. It seems that the two sides are not on the same page, which could lead to a parting of ways. Plenty of teams have already been rumored as a potential landing spot for him next offseason.
Keeping that in mind, James has an opportunity to break yet another NBA record during the 2025-26 season.
Los Angeles Lakers Superstar LeBron James Has Another NBA Record in His Sights

James and the Lakers are set to play on Christmas Day. They will face off against the Houston Rockets. In that game, the longtime superstar will have a chance to become the winningest players or coach in the NBA on Christmas Day with 12 total wins. Right now, he’s tied with Phil Jackson and Jack Ramsay for that title.
Last season, James continued playing at a superstar level. He’s now 40 years old and will turn 41 on December 31.
Despite his age, he has remained production. In the 70 games he played during the regular season last year, he averaged 24.4 points per game to go along with 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and a steal. He also shot 51.3 percent from the floor and 37.6 percent from three-point range.
Even though his outlook with Los Angeles might not look great, James has an opportunity to compete for another championship run. Rob Pelinka made a few key moves for the Lakers this offseason to surround James and Doncic with more talent, adding names like Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia.
If James can come out and continue playing the dominant brand of basketball he has played for years, he will give Los Angeles a chance in an extremely talented Western Conference.
