Dan Hurley has turned the UConn Huskies into a yearly national championship contender. While they came up short during the 2024-25 college basketball season, they were still very much in contention.

Prior to the 2024-25 season, the Huskies had won back-to-back titles.

Since taking over as the program’s head coach back in the 2018-19 season, Hurley has led the team to a 165-69 overall record and two championship victories. He has won 70.5 percent of his games at UConn.

How has he been able to turn the Huskies into a legitimate dynasty? He has recruited well, developed well, and has become an elite transfer portal destination too.

Ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 college basketball season, Hurley has another elite freshman incoming. Braylon Mullins, who hails from Greenfield-Central High School in Greenfield, Indiana, is expected to be a star for UConn.

Hurley spoke out about his dynamic young guard recently.

“Yeah, Braylon, I mean, the shooting is the first thing that stands out,” Hurley said. “You know, as well as some shot making that don’t involve just threes, and the fact that you can make them both dribble two and shoot them from deep.”

He continued on, talking about more that Mullins will bring to the court for the Huskies.

“I think there’s some toughness there. I think that there’s a seriousness,”  he said. “I think he’s like, I think he’s gonna guard, I think he’s gonna be able to guard people. Yeah, he definitely can [be a starter]. Yeah, he could definitely put himself in that position. You know, guys’ gotta earn it, but he certainly can earn it.”

During his final high school season at Greenfield-Central, according to Max Preps, Mullins averaged 32.9 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 3.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks. Those numbers are off the charts.

Mullins is also already receiving major NBA hype. Sam Vecenie of The Athletic recently ranked Mullins as the No. 7 prospect in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Only time will tell, but UConn and Hurley look like they may have a superstar on their hands. Hopefully, he’s able to continue developing well and reach the hype that he has been receiving ahead of his freshman season.
